I mean it! CONGRATULATIONS!!! I’m so happy for you! Oh my days! I can’t believe it! God is so good! Wow! I’m speechless! Wow! This is God! Just like that… after everything. Have I said congratulations? Well congratulations! Give me a hug! Wow!
I bet you’re like errrr… what’s going on here. So I better explain.
Have you imagined it!? Imagined what it would be like for you to receive what you’ve always wanted. What you’ve believed for, prayed for, received prophecy about. What will your reaction be? If you haven’t yet.. you should. I know for some it would be painful. It’s almost like playing a sick joke. Why would I get your hopes up and ask you to rejoice when you haven’t received it yet. How can I ask you to praise on credit.. or as we say in Christiandom.. praise in advance.
Well.. that’s what faith is… Faith calls those things that be not as though they were. (Romans 4:17). Faith gives glory to God while in process- Romans 4:20 says “He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God”
The bible says at the point of making our request known to God we should give thanks. (Why do I feel like some of you are laughing). No really.. imagine being like Abraham and Sarah who didn’t just start waiting.. they had been waiting. I believe they got to the point where having a child was something they no longer discussed. I mean they were past child bearing age. That’s why Sarah laughed when she heard God say it to Abraham. That’s why it was a hope against all hope. Imagine receiving a promise after you no longer desired it. It was almost a cruel joke.
But have you read Genesis 21 in the New Living Translation! It would make you do shout and dance! It may even make the dead hope in you leap again.
Verse 1 says “The LORD kept his word and did for Sarah EXACTLY what He had promised.”
Are you smiling yet?
The God we serve is faithful! What they thought would not happen.. happened! God did it! Even after they doubted and messed up.. the mercy of God was such that Sarah still received her promise.
The difference this time was, before they probably wanted a child because it’s what’s supposed to happen after you get married. It’s the normal sequence of things. But this time GOD PROMISED!
In verse 6-7 “And Sarah declared, “God has brought me laughter. All who hear about this will laugh with me. Who would have said to Abraham that Sarah would nurse a baby? Yet I have given Abraham a son in his old age!”
Can you imagine her joy? Can you almost see her facial expression.. it would have been a moment where she did not care how she looked.. she would not want to contain the joy in her soul. She probably cried for joy, then laughed, then danced and then cried laughed.
I pray that God will give you the same kind of laughter. I pray that you receive a testimony that will cause you to laugh and cause those that hear about it to laugh with you. The kind of laughter that doesn’t care what your face looks like. The kind of joy that can’t be hidden in a pout.
I pray for dream like miracles as seen in Psalm 126.. where the testimony would be like a dream but be real. That you’d be filled with laughter and sing for joy. The kind of testimony that will get others talking about the “amazing things God has done” for you.
Imagine how Sarah felt when she had her son in her arms. The promise was fulfilled. She had him in her arms! He was no longer a promise! He was a promise fulfilled, a reality! I pray that you too will come into a season of fulfilled promises in Jesus name.
You maybe feeling weary in the wait… especially when you’ve been waiting for a while but remind yourself of God’s promise to you. You see the son they were about to get wasn’t just a son as a result of marriage. You know I’m sure Sarah must have wondered why having a child was proving difficult. I mean others around her were married and having children.
But it didn’t happen for her that way. This son was not going to be just because her and Abraham (her husband) slept together. No! No! No! This was a son promised by God! This son carried the promise of a greater future than Abraham or Sarah could imagine. He carried the promise that secures generations for eternity. This wasn’t an ordinary boy. He was a promised child so I guess his entry had to be just right, spectacular if you will.
I used to wonder why some things didn’t happen as effortlessly for me as it did for others. But then I remember Isaac! This of course isn’t the only reason but in this context I want you to see.. that God’s plan for Abraham was different to everyone else. And as we are reminded there’s a time for everything. When we try to hurry God up we can end up with Ishmael’s.
So I remind myself of the promise. But not just the promise but of the character of the One who promised.
Hebrews 10:23- “Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful.”
Your faith shouldn’t be in what was promised but in Who promised knowing God is more than able! He does not lie. Encourage yourself in Him.
Romans 4:21 says that Abraham “being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform.”
Not only did He know God was able, but so did Sarah. Hebrews 11:11 says “Through faith also Sara herself received strength to conceive seed, and was delivered of a child when she was past age, because SHE JUDGED HIM FAITHFUL who had promised.
So what do you know about the faithfulness of God? Is your faith in what was promised or in Who promised? Self check.. and make the necessary adjustments so your faith can stand unwavering so you too can with faith and patience inherit the promise!
Just before this blog turns into a book.. I’ll stop. (Lol). I hope you get the point. I know hope deferred makes the heart sick (Proverbs 13:12) but like David said to himself.. “Hope thou in God”- (Psalm 42:5-11). The hope we have in God does not make us ashamed because God loves us. (Romans 5:5). Instead the hope we have in God acts as an anchor for our souls (Romans 6:14) so we don’t drown, we don’t get overwhelmed.
As my bishop says, “Faith is the currency of the Kingdom.”
But your hope should be in God. Your faith should be in God.
So go ahead, try it! Imagine you got it! Yes.. that thing! Now SMILE.. Take it a step further and laugh!
God is not a man that He should lie! He makes good on a His promises. He watches over His Word to perform it. He does not fail, He has not failed, He cannot fail and is not about to start with you.
