That’s the title of a book my mum bought while I was in my teens.

I guess she figured she needed help to decode the different stages my brothers and I were. I remember seeing that book and thinking, come on mum, we’re not that bad. (were we? lol) Yes I cried sometimes for no reason, I fought my brothers for what at the the time seemed like very valid reasons. Now at the age of twenty (coughs) I still have that phrase going around in my head. Infact I use it when speaking to my mum, well depending on the subject of conversation. When she hears that she knows it means I need her. I may feel it but that does not mean I can verbalise it in the way that effectively communicates it. So I need her to read in between the lines and help me tell her what I need her to know. (complex right?)

But haven’t you been there? Where there appears to be much within, left unsaid but having an effect or impact on life. I have come to this conclusion:

EVERYBODY NEEDS HELP!!! The royal family, government, men, women, youth, teens etc

God gave Adam a help in the form of Eve, Moses had help from Aaron and Miriam, Esther had Modecai, Ruth had Naomi etc. I’m sure you can come up with many more examples. I call those helps midwives because they come along to help you deliver what you need to, destiny helpers if you will.

Help does not mean that the person lives for you or replaces you. It simply means that they make it easier for you to do what you need to do by offering aid or assistance. A help can contribute strength to complete a task.

There are times when people just can’t help. Or should I say it seems like the people around don’t get it, or you. What do you do? The more I reach that place, the more I understand why David had to lift up his eyes to see where His help would come from? (Psalm 121). However in order to be confident in the help that comes from God, you must know Him. When King Asa got to the place of need, He cried ‘Lord it is nothing with You to help whether with many or with them that have no power: help us, O Lord, for we rest on You, and in Your name we go against the multitude. O Lord, Thou art God, let not man prevail against You.’- (2 Chronicles 14:11)

Do you see the confidence he had. He knew he had to go into battle. There are times when battle is not optional. Even when you don’t think you have what it takes, life does not ask permission before dropping battle your way.

I love the book of Psalms. It helps to assure me of the help I have in God. Psalm 3 says when trouble increases to the point that people think even God can’t help me, I can be confident that God is ‘a shield for me, my glory and the lifter up of my head’

(See Psalm 12:12, 20:2, 22:11&19, 27:9, 33:20, 35:2, 37:40, 40:13, 46:5- just read the whole of Psalms lol)

Psalm 108:12 says ‘Give us help from trouble for the help of man is vain.’ I love that! God can send help through a person no doubt but ultimately like Psalm 54:4 says THE LORD IS MY HELPER!’ although He sends help. (Psalm 20:2)

In  John 14:26 Jesus tells us that He will send the Comforter which is the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is our Help. He helps by teaching us and reminding us of what God has said. He is known as the paraclete which is one called along beside. He has been given to us to help. He is a Counsellor, Comforter, Guide, Teacher and much more.

He can lead us into all truth and applied truth brings freedom.

Wait? this topic is bigger than this blog, I just want you to know that there is help available. It is so easy to see the mountains you face and not understand that you have access to a secret weapon who gives you an advantage. That is the Holy Spirit, God Himself. He desires to help us win this race. The Holy Spirit is here to prepare us, guide, protect, teach and reveal things to us, help navigate us.

So instead of getting my knickers in a twist about what I don’t know.. worrying about how when and where, I pray the Lord to help me walk closely with the one called along beside me. His help is more than enough!!! I love the name Moses gave his son, ‘Eliezer’ which means the God of my father was my help and delivered me.

I don’t know what you are going through right now but I’m pretty sure this is not your first battle or adversity. God that helped you through that will help you through this. Psalm 121:4- the God that watches over you does not slumber no sleep. There is no temptation that you are dealing with now that is not common to man, you are not the only one going through it and you certainly aren’t the last. However, know that with every temptation THERE IS ALWAYS A WAY OF ESCAPE. Ask your guide to show you the way.

I ask the Lord to help me pray more for you. It can get tough out there for many different reasons but hold on to your HELP!
