Life is full of changes…. That in itself is an understatement if I have ever heard one. We all had or have dreams of how we want things to work out. Even if you don’t know exactly, word for word where you want to be in the next 10 years (let’s be honest not everyone does). We all have a basic hope that we want to at least be ok, happy, comfortable etc. Recently I have been pondering on how something’s don’t work out the way we want them to. (Please wait before you shout me down) Have you ever had something blow up in your face or not work out even when you know you did everything or at least most things by the book. I’ve heard so many people tell me, “why did I fail, I made sure I studied everything in depth, i practiced questions, did extra lessons.” Or “I just don’t understand, I made sure I kept things pure, never crossed the line, yet we broke up and those guys that broke every rule…they are married” have you ever been there, where you feel… What else can I do? here is where some people are tempted to do it the other way… You go against their convictions because they no longer see the point. I’m not even going to lie…. I have been there too….. Do you know what encouraged me …Psalm 73 written by Asaph (I don’t know who he is yet but he wrote a couple of the psalms) He reveals that as close as he was with God, he also had these strange thoughts. Look at the message translation from verse 2, he said “but I nearly missed it, missed seeing His goodness, I was looking the other way, looking up to the people at the top, envying the wicked who have it made who have not a care in the whole wide world. If you keep reading you can see how disgruntled he is at what seems so unjust. He even goes as far as saying “I’ve been stupid to play by the rules.” We like the author of the psalm sometimes feel that life should work out that way. The “good” should get the good things and the bad should suffer…. Is that so hard? There’s a problem here aside from the fact that we currently sound so self righteous… The problem here is that we have excluded God from the equation. We have forgotten that there is a plan… That’s what the author discovered… EVERYTHING MAKES MORE SENSE OR SHOULD I SAY IS CLEARER WHEN YOU ARE IN GOD’S PRESENCE. In God’s presence he was shown the end of the wicked he envied. He saw that though they looked like they had everything, they really had nothing. Aside from that, God takes him by the hand and leads him. Oh then comes one of my favourite verses… Going king James on this one… Vs 26 “my flesh and my heart faileth but GOD IS THE STRENGTH OF MY HEART AND MY PORTION FOREVER! He knows those that are far from God will perish… When things don’t appear to work out, it’s hard to give thanks… Especially when you see others that don’t know God with what you want. But I pray God gives us the right perspective.. The God perspective on life. Romans 8: 28 says “and we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are called according to His purpose” Now it doesn’t say things will work out the way you want them to…but that it will work out for your good IF you love God and are called according to His purpose. God wants good for us… Jeremiah 29:11- “for I know the thoughts I think towards you saith The Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you and expected end.” I believe that it’s an issue of trust… Do you trust that even if God allows you to be thrown into the furnace, The lions den, the pit and prison… Do you trust that He will make it good in the end. Knowing that according to 1 Peter 1:6 we may go through heaviness through manifold temptations so that the trial of our faith which is more precious than gold though it is tried in fire might be found to bring praise, honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ. Can we appreciate the lessons we learn when things don’t seem to go our way…. You know counting it joy when we fall into divers temptation knowing that the trying of our faith is working something of eternal significance within us. Can you take this position… The author of psalm 73… Couldn’t see the point, got to the place where he felt serving God was in vain… But then He got a glimpse of the master plan. You may not understand where you are and why certain things happened but know there is an end and it can potentially be glorious for you. I pray that circumstances will not cause you to sabotage your destiny. I pray for grace to hold on to God, to love God in the good and in the bad. Oh I pray that you are rightfully positioned, processed to possess all God has for you. It’s a priority for Christ to be formed in you… Seek ye first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be added to you.
